Although NASCAR no longer has any association with stock cars, it maintains and promotes the accronym of the original "National Association for Stock Car Auto Racing" controling organization and motorsports event sanctioning body. NASCAR is currently the most poular motorsport arena in America due to its original roots in stock car racing, although all machines raced today are now prototypes with little resembling any kind of stock production automobile.
