| MINI The Mini is a compact car produced by the British Motor Corporation (BMC) in answer to the fuel crisis of 1956. This economic two-door car was designed for BMC by Sir Alec Issigonis in response to public demand for the more economic German compact cars because of fuel shortages. The Mini was produced almost unchanged by BMC and its successors from 1959 to 2000, though there were variant models (estate car, pickup truck, van and the Mini Moke). The Mini model name first appeared in 1961, but was used ever since. The most popular British-made car, it has now been modernized and replaced by the New MINI which was launched by BMW in 2001. http://www.mini.co.uk/ |
