| Marmon-Herrington Originally starting as an all wheel drive truck manufacturer founded by Walter C. Marmon and Arthur W. Herrington in 1931, Marmon-Herrington focused on building all wheel drive trucks. It also manufactured multi-stop delivery vans, and passenger vehicles. Thy acquired Ford's transit coaches business in 1950, while their trolleybuses were successful in the fleets of several North-American cities. After Marmon-Herrington ceased truck production in 1963, a new company, Marmon Motor Co. of Denton, Texas, bought the truck designs and revived the Marmon brand to build and sell truck designs that Marmon-Herrington had on the drawing board. These Marmons were premium heavy duty trucks aimed at the owner operator, and were the epitome of a Texan big rig semi-truck tractor. The Marmon was hand crafted truck in low production numbers. An overcrowded American heavy truck industry and the lack of a nationwide sales network took its toll on Marmon Trucks in 1997. The production facilities in Garland, Texas, were taken over by International’s Paystar division. Marmon-Herrington continues to build kits for All-Wheel-Drive conversion on medium and heavy trucks. It has also become a large front drive axle and transfer case manufacturer to the duty truck market. Marmon-Herrington axles are still made for military vehicles and commercial trucks. http://www.marmon-herrington.com/ |
