| Henderson Motorcycle Info William and Tom Henderson founded the Henderson Motorcycle Co. in 1911 producing single cylinder motorcycles. In 1912 brothers introduced an inline four cylinder which became the Henderson design and performance trademark. This design won races and broke records constantly and is still considered one of the most advanced motorcycle designs today. Hendersons were powerful and pleasurable performance motorcycles with a very predictable and dependable powerband. Bill Henderson continually refined the inline four's engineering and design. Even after bought-out by Inza Schwinn to become a brand through Excelsior-Henderson, the Henderson excelled in racing. After Bill left Excelsior-Henderson due to development disputes, he continued his improved inline four designs at his new Ace Motor Corporation in Phildelphia. Unfortunately, On 11 December, 1922, shortly after 11 a.m., William Henderson was hit by another motor vehicle while testing the new Ace Sporting Solo and was killed. Bill Henderson's revolutionary inline fours went on to become the basis for Indian's inline four model, the Ace, which it continually developed and tooled with. Latitudinal inline four engine designed motorcycles remain the most sought after vintage motorcycles to this day, and yet the configuration has not been produced for ages. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Henderson_Motorcycle |
