| Edsel Restoration, Information & Clubs Edsel Ford, born in 1893, became president of Ford Motor Company on January 1, 1919. On September 17, 1919, Henry & Edsel became sole owners of Ford Motor Company. Edsel Ford loved to design automobiles, but died young, before turning 50. His name and reputation inspired Ford's new E-Car (Experimental Car). On November 19, 1956 Ford announced the new car name, Edsel, and the Special Products Division became the Edsel Division. Ford claimed that the design of the Edsel will be far more radical than any of its other products and it would use radical means to promote it. On July 15, 1957, production of the 1958 Edsel model cars began. Perhaps it was too radical, after being introduced on September 4, 1957, Ford discontinued the Edsel line on November 19, 1959 and very few 1960 models were made. http://www.edsel.com/ |
