| Delorean Motor Company After developing the GTO into the first muscle car and heading other Pontiac genius designs such as the Firebird & TransAm, John DeLorean started DeLorean Motor Company (DMC) in 1975. Noted for the one model produced, the DMC-12, The distinctive stainless steel bodied DMC-12 sports car featured gull-wing doors. It was especially striking and handled well, but it was underpowered. In 1982 DMC went into receivership and bankruptcy.
